Note: | Ruth Kerkovius: A twentieth century American printmaker and painter, Ruth Kerkovius received her initial training in Munich, Germany, where she worked primarily as a costume designer for the theatre. She settled permanently in New York shortly after the end of the Second World War and studied there at both the Art Students' League and at the School of Visual Arts. Ruth Kerkovius then concentrated upon printmaking techniques at the famous Pratt Graphic Art Center, under Fransconi. She was later awarded a fellowship from this institution to work under Michael Ponce de Leon. |
Since 1962, Ruth Kerkovius's woodcuts and lithographs have been included in exhibitions with such major institutions as the Society of American Graphic Artists, the Silverman Guild of Artists, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Library of Congress. Her graphic art is now included in such collections as the University of Chicago, Wesleyan University, the Cincinnati Art Museum and the Library of Congress, Washington, DC. | |
