Pierre-Georges Jeanniot's "Le Polo 'Spectateurs au Polo'" (Polo 'Spectators of Polo) is an original etching printed upon fine hand made, laid paper with the 'Arches' watermark and with large, deckled margins as published in Paris around 1900. 'Le Polo', with its fashionable women and men, is typical of the artistic talents of the French painter, etcher and illustrator, Pierre Jeanniot and is one of his most famous works of original etched art. |

Note: | Pierre-Georges Jeanniot: A late nineteenth and early twentieth century French painter, etcher and illustrator, Pierre Georges Jeanniot is now most famous for his great turn-of-the-century scenes of Paris life. His artistic education began under his father, Pierre-Alexandre Jeanniot (1826-1892), the long time director of the Musee des Beaux-Arts, Dijon. He first exhibited his paintings and watercolours at the Paris Salon of 1872 and initially established his reputation as an artist of military scenes. |
Pierre-Georges Jeanniot settled permanently in Paris in 1882. During the following three decades he illustrated a large number of books, including, Le Voyage a Saint-Cloud, Germaine Lacerteux, Tartarin de Tarascon and Les Liasons Dangereuses. He was also a constant contributing artist to La Vie Moderne and was the Editor of Journal Amusant. In 1906 the French Government awarded Pierre-Georges Jeanniot the Chevalier de la Legion d'honneur. | |

Pierre-Georges Jeanniot exhibited both brilliance and originality. Collectors of his
art included such fellow artists as Degas and Pissarro. In 1924 F. L.

Bearing an unidentified blindstamp of either the artist or publisher within the lower left margin. Also a former owner has written, "Jeanniot 'le polo' 2 Etat (2nd State)" on the bottom edge of the paper. A beautifully printed impression and in excellent condition throughout. Le Polo (Spectateurs au Polo) is one of Pierre-Georges Jeanniot's largest and most famous works of original etched art. |
