Aquatint Engraving: Briefly, the artist creates an aquatint engraving by using a porous ground
or series of grounds such as sand or resin instead of covering the plate with a solid
ground, as in etching. This permits the acid to create granular, tonal areas on the plate. Invented
in the late 18th Century, aquatint is often combined with etching. |
