Sakiko Ide: A twentieth century Japanese
painter and printmaker, Sakiko Ide studied art in her native country but
was active mostly in the United States during the 1960,s and 1970's.
Her prints won major awards at the Silvermine New England Exhibition and at
the Art Institute of Chicago show. Sakiko Ide's original silkscreens were sold by such
major publishers as the Associated American Artists of New York.
Today such institutions as the Museum of Modern Art, New York, include examples of Ide's art in their permanent
collections. As well, the artist's personal papers are housed at
the Smithsonian American Art Museum, National Portrait Gallery Library,
Washington, D.C. |

In Japan 'Kiku-sui' is the traditional symbol
for the chrysanthemum and flowing water. In "Kiku Sui II" Sakiko Ide constructs
a vibrant, modern work of art based upon this visual design. |

Printed upon smooth, laid Japan paper and with full, deckled
margins as published in New York around 1970. Pencil signed, titled and
numbered, '29/100', by the artist along the lower margin. Containing
slight folding in the outer margins, well away from the actual image, else
a brilliantly printed impression and in very good condition throughout.
"Kiku Sui II" (Chrysanthemum and Flowing Water) represents
a large, impressive example of the silkscreen art of Sakiko Ide. |
