Albany E. Howarth's original etching and drypoint engraving, of a 'Cathedral Interior' is an accomplished work of art created in 1922. This impression of "Cathedral Interior" is printed upon fine, hand-made, laid paper bearing the 'J. Whatman England' watermark and with wide, full margins as published in London in the limited edition of one hundred and fifty impressions. It is signed and dated in the plate and signed in pencil by Albany Howarth under the plate-mark.

Note: Albany E. Howarth 'Albany Howarth': An early twentieth century English architectural and landscape etcher and water-colourist, Albany Howarth first worked as a drawing apprentice in the office of Armstrong, Whitworth. Beginning around 1905 he emerged as a major etcher and frequently exhibited at such major venues as the Fine Arts Society, the Royal Academy and with the Royal Engravers. Albany Howarth was elected an Associate of the Royal Engravers in 1920.
  During his career, Albany E. Howarth etched many great architectural views in England, Italy and (most particularly) France. As is here the case, he often combined etching with drypoint to achieve strong tonal effects. Many of his etchings during the 1920's were published by the Fine Art Trade Guild, London, in editions of one hundred and fifty signed impressions. Cathedral Interior bears the blindstamp of this publisher along the lower left margin.

Condition: Printed on fine, hand-made, laid paper bearing the 'J. Whatman England' watermark and with wide, full margins as published in London in the limited edition of 150 impressions in 1922. Signed and dated in the plate (to the lower right) and signed in pencil under the plate-mark. Also bearing the publisher's blindstamp as well as other blindstamps to the lower left. Containing very faint creasing else a magnificent impression and in very good condition throughout. Cathedral Interior represents a large and brilliant example of the etched art of Albany E. Howarth.
