Note:	Sir Charles Holroyd: A highly regarded turn-of the-century English painter and etcher, Sir Charles Holroyd studied under Alphonse Legros at the Slade. At this time he became the long time friend of William Strang, and the work of these two artists has often been compared. Between 1880 and 1916, Holroyd created nearly three hundred original etchings, most dealing with either English or Italian subject matter. "Georgione at Asolo" is considered to be one of his finest etchings, and is illustrated in "British Etchers" * It was printed and published in London by "The Art Journal", who commissioned many original etchings and lithographs by prominent English artists of the day.
	A full member of the Royal Engravers, Charles Holroyd was also influential in his role as an administrator. He held the post of Keeper of the Tate Gallery from 1897 to 1906 and then became Director of the National Gallery from 1906 to 1916. Both the British Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London own collections of his original etchings.
	"Giorgione at Asolo" was published by H. Virtue & Co. Ltd. for The Art Journal in 1902. "The Art Journal" was an important late nineteenth and early twentieth century annual dedicated to the visual arts. Such leading artists as Axel Haig, J. M. W. Whistler, Seymour Haden, Herbert Von Herkomer, Alfred Brunet-Debaines, John MacWhirter, Miles Birket Foster, Sir Charles Holroyd and others contributed original etched.plates to The Art Journal, London over several decades.
