in his career. Since his appointment to the University of Houston, the
artist has been primarily occupied with artistic photography, particularly
in the field of computer-generated imaging. In this medium, Hill has received
many commissions from the city of Houston. Edward Hill's original prints
and photographs are today included in the following collections; the Los
Angeles County Museum of Arts, Texas A & M University, the Museum of Contemporary
Photography, Chicago, the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the International Center for Photography, New

Provenance: |
This impression of Woods near Velden was formerly in the collection of
the Associated American Artists of New York. Since its creation in the
mid 1930's the Associated American Artists commissioned original graphic
art from such great masters as Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, Reginald
Marsh and others. It published etchings and lithographs of no less stature
during the 1960's and 1970's as contributing artists included Jack Levine,
Chaim Koppelman, Joseph Margulies, James Kearns, Leonard Lehrer and Sidney
Chafetz, as well as a number of fine, international artists. It is probable
to assume that Woods near Velden was commissioned by this publisher. |
