Title: |
Kaferfalle (Beetle Trap) |
Artist: |
Hever, Barlach (German, 20th c.) |
Date: |
c. 1965 |
Medium: |
Original Aquatint Engraving in Colours |
Note: |
Barlach Hever: No information has yet been found
on the work of this artist. This does not necessarily mean that the artist
was and is unknown. Either the signature of the artist is illegible (and
I have misread it) or the artist chose not to frequently enter exhibitions
or consign to major galleries. Most likely, because this is a modern work
of art, readily available documentation has yet to be compiled. It is,
nevertheless, a striking work of original printmaking and is offered for
sale for this reason. |
|
What can be ascertained is that Kaferfalle was commissioned
by a major source as it bears the blindstamp of the "Graphikkreis der
Neuen Munichaer Gallerie" of Dr. Hiepe & Co. on the lower right margin
(under the matte). The name of the artist and the title are also printed
on the verso. |
|
Kaferfalle is actually a combination of two different
engravings, one in brown and the other in blue. This helps to create an
amazing sense of space as the beetle from afar surveys the wonderfully
surrealistic and complex trap. |
