Note:	James Drummond Herbert: A very well known twentieth century sculptor, painter and artistic director, studied at Columbia University and at the Art Students League, New York, under George Bridgman. James Herbert's artistic education was completed in 1920 when he went to the Julien Academy in Paris to study under Dumond and Lentelli.
	During his career, James Drummond Herbert was equally well received for his sculptor, paintings and drawings. He was a full member of such major societies as the National Arts Club, the Art Students, League of New York, the National Society of Illustrators and the National Sculpture Society. James Drummond Herbert exhibited frequently at the prestigious National Academy of Design, Washington, as well as at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and at the Architectural League, New York. Both the Art Institute of Chicago and the Metropolitan Museum, New York, Include his art in their permanent collections.
	Ballet Study - Madame Senier dates from the mid 1940's when James Drummond Herbert was commissioned by the National Ballet company of New York to execute designs and drawings for a performance. The drawing remained in Herbert's estate until after his death when it was sold by his widow, who provided the estate stamp signature as well as writing the title and further information on the verso.
