Beverly Hallam: A twentieth century American printmaker
and painter, Beverly Hallam studied art at the Massachusetts College of
Art in Boston and graduated in 1945. Upon graduation she assumed the position
of Head of the Art Department at Lasell Junior College for a period of
four years. She then returned to the Massachusetts College of Art in 1949
as an instructor. In 1962 Beverly Hallam moved to Ogunquit, Maine and
opened a studio for her art named the Barn Gallery. |
|
During her career Beverly Hallam has dedicated much of her
energies towards the medium of the monotype. Both painting and printmaking,
the demanding monotype medium yields superb tonal values and shades in
the hands of a master. The Search is indicative of Hallam's highly
regarded monotype art. |
|
In 1978 Beverly Hallam donated a large collection of her
papers to the Fogler Library at the University of Maine. This collection
includes some of her illustrated books, such as The House by the Sea,
written by May Sarton, as well as exhibition announcements and catalogs
concerning her art from 1951 to 1978. Today the art of Beverly Hallam
is included in many public and private collections in Maine, New Hampshire,
Vermont, Massachusetts and elsewhere. |
