Axel Haig's original etching, "Campanile, Venice" is regarded as one of his greatest works of etched art. Created shortly before the beginning of World War One, this large etching brilliantly depicts the famous Venice bell tower (campanile) as well as the Doge's Palace and other famous structures of the city. It is a master work of both architectural detail and atmospheric rendering.

This original etching was created by the British artist, Axel Hermann Haig and published in London in 1914. It is dated and signed by the artist in the plate with his characteristic monogramme and it is also signed by him in pencil.

Note:	Axel Hermann Haig 'Axel Haig': At the end of the nineteenth and at the beginning of the twentieth century, Axel Haig was one of Britain's most famous etchers. Haig, however, was actually born and raised on Gotland Island, Sweden, and initially studied naval architecture. Later, he settled in London and began working for several architects. Haig studied etching in his spare hours and within several years began producing the large architectural views that made him famous. His art in this medium quickly gained national recognition and Axel Haig became a regular exhibitor at the prestigious Royal Academy. He was also a full member of the Royal Society of Etchers and Engravers.
	In total, Axel Haig created over four hundred etchings, the majority depicting castles, towers and cathedrals in both England and on the Continent. The Victoria and Albert Museum and the British Museum, London, own large collections of his etched art.

Condition:	Printed upon thick hand-made, laid paper and with full, large margins as published in London in 1914. Dated and signed by the artist in the plate with his characteristic monogramme (lower right corner) and signed by him in pencil along the lower margin. Small tears and foxing exist in the outer margins and one slight stain is apparent within the image to the right of the bell tower, else a beautifully printed, tonal impression with the fine lines indicative of an early impression. Altogether, this original etching represents a prime example of the famous architectural art of Axel Hermann Haig 'Axel Haig'.
