Adolf Haferland

Adolf Haferland - In Beethoven's IX

In Beethoven's IX

Adolf Haferland's original drypoint engraving, In Beethoven's IX, dates from around 1920. Classical music and portraits of its performers was a major theme throughout Haferland's artistic career. In 1919, for example, Adolf Haferland created several etchings and engravings of Felix von Weingartner conducting the Vienna Philharmonic.

In Beethoven's IX is a penetrating study of the emotional effects upon an audience of probably the most famous symphony in the history of Western music. As the chorus appears to be standing in the background it is reasonable to conclude that the fourth and final movement has begun.
