Paul Gauthier: A contemporary Canadian landscape artist in oils, watercolours and silkscreen prints, Paul Gauthier has earned a substantial reputation throughout the country and has frequently exhibited with the Ontario Society of Artists. Besides his formal studies at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, Toronto, Paul Gauthier learned the art of working in the mediums of oil, watercolour, and much concerning the art of silkscreen printing from his father Joachim Gauthier (1897 - 1986). J. G. Gauthier was a full member of the Royal Canadian Academy (R.C.A.), the Ontario Society of Artists (O.S.A), and the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (C.S.P.W.C.), as well as being a long employed artist for the Toronto Company of Sampson Matthews Ltd. Sampson Matthews was the prime Canadian printer for man silkscreens, including those of A. J. Casson. Downhill Racer is a striking, original example of the silkscreen art of Paul Gauthier. |

At this time, Paul Gauthier created at least three beautifully executed silkscreens on the subject of skiing, Country Trailing, Downhill Racer, and Powder Run. They were all printed in an edition of two hundred and fifty signed and numbered impressions. This original silkscreen entitled, Downhill Racer (Alpine Ski Racing) hails from this series. This beautiful landscape depicts an alpine downhill skier racing down the slope of a picturesque winter landscape enriched with a view of the frozen lake in the and rolling hills in the distance. Along with cross country skiing, snow boarding, ice skating, and powder skiing, downhill skiing is another favourite winter sport enjoyed by many all across Canada and worldwide. Some of the best Alpine downhill skiing with breathtaking scenery is provided during the skiing season at many of the best resorts and destinations around the world, which include Japan, USA, Europe, New Zealand, South America, Canada and elsewhere. One of the highest ski resorts in Ontario Canada includes Osler Bluff Ski Club, Devil's Glen, Madawaska Mountain, Mount Evergreen and many other scenic downhill ski resorts throughout Canada. |
