Roy C. Gamble 'Roy Gamble': A twentieth century Detroit artist,
Roy C. Gamble studied art at the Detroit Fine Arts Academy, the Art Students
League, New York, and at the Academie Julian, Paris. Roy Gamble began exhibiting
his art around 1910 and in 1914 he received his first major commission
-- a series of large murals depicting the history of Detroit for the Detroit
Free Press Building. During the following years, Roy Gamble received such awards
as the Hopkin Prize (1914) the Gold Medal from the Scarab Club (1920)
and the Founders Prize from the Detroit Art Institute (1928). |

Impressionistic in style, Roy C. Gamble was most highly regarded
for his figure studies and genre scenes. He was a full member of both the
Scarab Club and the Prismatic Club, Detroit. Today examples of his art are
included in such major collections as the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine
Arts, the Detroit Art Institute and the Butler Museum of American Art. The
latter institution houses one of Roy Gamble's most famous paintings, a depiction
of Ty Cobb. |

After the artist's death all works remaining in his estate received the
official stamp of the artist which appears here in the lower right corner. |

margins. Containing two minute pin prick holes within the image, else in
good condition throughout. Bearing Gamble's estate stamp to the lower right.
