William Thomas Fry's Original Engraving, Hyacinth (Flowers of Loveliness) is based upon a design created by the British artist, Edmund Thomas Parris. This impression is printed upon early 19th century wove paper and with full margins, bearing the title, "Daisies", the artists' signatures, "W. F. Fry Sct.", & "E. T. Parris Delt.", as well as the name of The London Printing and Publishing Company within the plate as published by John Tallis and Company for Flowers of Loveliness in 1854. "Daisies" depicts two young women waiting out the storm under a tree. It represents a superb, original example of the 19th century art by the British artists, William Thomas Fry & Edmund Thomas Parris.

Note:	William Thomas Fry (W. T. Fry): A fine 19th century English printmaker, William Thomas Fry was also known as 'W. T. Fry'. Throughout his career, he exhibited at the Society of British artist. His artistic oeuvre mainly consisted of portraits, figure studies, educational and historical subjects in the medium of stipple engraving, aquatint, and lithography after the designs of such great artists, as Sir Godfrey Kneller, Thomas Phillips, Sir John Reynolds, William Nicholson, Edmund Thomas Parris, Thomas Lawrence, and others. William Thomas Fry created graphic art for such works as, "Flowers of loveliness: Twelve Groups of Female Figures, Emblematic of Flowers, from Designs by E. T. Parris, Esq. with Poetical Illustrations, published by Ackermann and Company, London (1836), "Abraham Thornton, Crayon Manner Engraving by W. T. Fry" (1818), "Advice to Parents and Tutors: for conducting the education of children" (1820), "Lives of Scottish Poets: with Portraits and Vignettes" (1822), "A Collection of Hymns, for the use of people called Methodists" (1825), "Thirty Medallion Portraits of Celebrated Authors", (1830), "The British Colonies: Their History, Extent, Condition and Resources" (1848?), and other fine illustrated volumes. 	Edmund Thomas Parris (E. T. Parris): A fine painter, watercolour artist, and illustrator, Edmund Thomas Parris Esq first apprenticed as an enameller and later studied art at the Royal Academy. His artistic oeuvre consisted of portraits, landscapes and historical subjects, however, Parris was particularly well known for his portrayals of beautiful women and children. E. T. Parris first exhibited his paintings at the Royal Academy in 1816 and thereafter throughout his career. Thomas Edmund Parris was appointed history painter to Queen Adelaide. A fine illustrator, Parris created designs for such works as, Flowers of loveliness: Twelve Groups of Female Figures, Emblematic of Flowers, from Designs by E. T. Parris, Esq. with Poetical Illustrations, in Verse by the Countess of Blessington (1836), published by Ackermann and Company, London, Gems of Beauty, displayed in a series of Twelve Highly Finished Engravings of The Passions, from Designs by E. T. Parris, Esq. with Fanciful Illustrations, in Verse by the Countess of Blessington, published by Longman, Orme, Brown, Green and Longmans, Delloy and Co. 	Flowers of Loveliness: Near the beginning of Queen Victoria's long reign there appeared a large portfolio of forty engravings of female figures that were unequaled for their delicacy of line and composition. Published by John Tallis, London, Edinburgh, Dublin, and New York in 1854 under the title of, Flowers of Loveliness, Forty Groups of Female Figures Emblematic of Flowers, Designed by first Artists, Expressly for this Work: with poetical illustrations, by Letitia E. Landon, The Countess of Blessington, and Thomas Haynes Bayley, Esq., Dedicated to Her Most Gracious Majesty, The Queen. The theme of this set was to unite the beauty of women with that of flowers. The designers that were commissioned included some of the finest British artists of the day, such as, Edmund Thomas Parris (1793-1873), Thomas Uwins (1782-1857), Kenny Meadows (1790-1874), Eliza Sharpe (1796-1874), Fanny Corbaux (1812-1883), and others. The engravers were no less distinguished as they included Henry Thomas Ryall (1811-1867), William Thomas Fry (1789-1843), Thomas Woolnoth (1785-1838), James Thomson (1788-1850), William Henry Egleton, Thomas Anthony Dean (1801-1860), George Adcock, and others. This original engraving bears the title, "Daisies", the artists' signatures, "W. F. Fry Sct.", & "E. T. Parris Delt.", as well as the name of The London Printing and Publishing Company within the plate as published by John Tallis and Company for Flowers of Loveliness in 1854. The scene depicts two young women waiting out the storm under a tree. The text included with each engraving contained poetry, and sometimes detailed information concerning each flower. The following is a poem by Mrs. Barbauld and a stanza from the next poem; "Daisies. Flowers sweet and gay, and delicate, like you; Emblems of innocence, and beauty too. Mrs Barbauld." - - "Simple flowers although ye be, Ye are dearly loved by me; Simple children -- ye no less Touch me with your lowliness, Both my native fields adorn, Joyous as the breath of morn; Both, when comes the dewy night, Seek repose, in slumbers light; And, when shines the morning ray, Re-awaken like he day -- He was lowly too -- the Power Who created child and flower!..."
	John Tallis: The London publisher John Tallis was considered one of the most sought after cartographers of the early 19th century. From 1838 to 1851 John Tallis published maps, genre, theatrical portraits, views, and other historical works under his various firms, 'L. Tallis', 'Tallis & Co.', 'John Tallis', 'J. & F. Tallis publishing company', 'John Tallis & Co.' (London & New York). In his book, Hamlet and the Visual Arts, 1709-1900, published 2002, the author Alan R. Young writes that John Tallis established a new publishing company (in partnership with Ephraim Tipton Brain), 'The London Printing and Publishing Co.', London and New York in December of 1853. An original engraving, Daisies hails from the large portfolio of forty engravings of female figures entitled, Flowers of Loveliness first published by John Tallis and Company, London, Edinburgh, Dublin, and New York. The engravings bear the title, the artists' names, and the name of ' The London Printing and Publishing Company' within the plate.

Containing the usual traces of foxing one finds in wove paper of this era (particularly in the outer margins), else a finely printed, early impression and in good condition throughout.
