Sondra Freckelton: A leading contemporary American
printmaker and watercolorist, Sondra Freckelton studied art at the School
of the Art Institute of Chicago. She began her career as a sculptor working
in wood and plastics. Until the early 1970's her sculpture and paintings
were mainly abstract in their composition. |
|
Freckelton then concentrated upon realism, particularly
still life subjects of interior scenes and gardens. During the 1980's
she created a number of large, meticulously colored screenprints on these
subjects, sometimes employing as many as twenty separate color printings.
With its wealth of form and coloration, Ladder Chair is an exquisite example
of her art. In the 1990's Freckelton also used the Pochoir or Stencil
method in her prints. |
|
Sondra Freckelton's original prints have been the subject
of many solo exhibitions at major galleries in New York, Chicago, San
Francisco and Washington, DC. At present Sondra Freckelton and her husband,
the artist, Jack Beal (b. 1931) live and work near Oneonta, New York,
and in New York City. |
