Leander Fornas: An American etcher,
lithographer and woodcut artist, Leander Fornas studied at the Pratt Institute,
New York (1947-1950), the Kunstgewerbeschule, Zurich, Switzerland (1950-1951),
and at the Suomen Taideakatemian, Finland (1951-1953). From 1955 to 1958
Fornas worked at the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York. Abstract
Movements was created by the artist there in 1957 and bears the stamp
of the Pratt Graphic Art Center. |

During his career Leander Fornas exhibited his art at major
exhibitions in such cities as New York, Rome, Athens, Moscow, Goteborg,
Sweden and Sao Paulo, Brazil. Today his original prints are included in
the following collections; The Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Rockefeller
Center, New York, and the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C. The Anteneum
Art Museum, Finland, lists eight of Leander Fornas's graphic works of art in its
permanent collection. |

Printed on smooth wove paper with the 'Basingwerk Parchment'
watermark and with full margins as printed in New York in 1957. Signed,
dated and numbered, '39/48 tpla', by the artist in pencil along the lower
margin. Bearing the red stamp of the Pratt Graphic Art Center on both the
verso and recto. A finely printed impression and in very good condition
throughout. Abstract Movements represents a prime, original example
of the American art of Leander Fornas. |
