Marcel Fiorini: Born in Algeria, Marcel Fiorini first
studied art at the Lycee de Bone. Between 1940 and 1942 he also took classes
in painting techniques at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts d'Alger. Fiorini came
to Paris in 1947 and established a studio there. Shortly thereafter his
art was promoted by the scholar and writer, Roger Chastel. Fiorini's first
major one man show took place in Paris at the Galerie Jeane Bucher in
1953. Since that time his graphic art has been frequently exhibited throughout
Europe and has also been included in the Bienal de Sao Paulo, Brazil. |
|
During the early 1950's Marcel Fiorini concentrated almost
solely upon intaglio printmaking techniques, primarily aquatinting and
engraving. After this time, however, he began experimenting with large
linoleum cuts, sometimes in concert with the above techniques. His graphic
art is widely known for its strong, sculptural forms and challenging printing
techniques. |

This original color aquatint was commissioned by the Guilde
Internationale de la Gravure, Geneva, Switzerland. During the early 1950's
this fine arts publisher commissioned prints from such artists as Anthony
Gross, S. W. Hayter, Fred Becker, Marcel Fiorini, Alfred Manessier and
Fernand Leger. All were published in hand-signed editions of 200 impressions
and bear the publisher's seal in the lower margins. |
