It is printed upon nineteenth century wove paper with large, full margins and is signed in the plate by Essig to the lower right and also contains the full title within the lower margin. This impression is signed by the artist, "Geo. E. Essg.", within the lower right part of the plate. It also contains the text "Sunset, Maurice River, N.J., Painted and etched by Geo. E. Essig." in the lower margin. "Sunset, Maurice River, New Jersey" is a fine original example of the landscape art created by the American artist, George Essig.

Note:	George Emerick Essig: A New Jersey painter, etcher and illustrator, George Emerick Essig received his education at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, studying under Edward Moran and James Hamilton. Around 1870, George Essig moved permanently to the region of Atlantic City, New Jersey, and dedicated his art to marine compositions and landscapes. George Essig's primary medium was watercolor but during the 1880's and early 1890's he created a small number of original etchings, often based upon his paintings. Such is the case with Sunset, Maurice River, New Jersey. This impression is signed by the artist, "Geo. E. Essg.", within the lower right part of the plate. It also contains the text, "Sunset, Maurice River, N.J., Painted and etched by Geo. E. Essig." in the lower margin.
	Today the art of George Emerick Essig will be found in many public and private collections, including the New Jersey State Museum, Trenton, and the State Museum of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg.
