A master of both drypoint engraving and aquatint, Nelson Dawson turned mostly to the demanding medium of soft ground etching after 1910. As Scarborough Harbour-Mouth is created purely by aquatint it most likely pre dates this year. With its brilliant tonal contrasts it ranks as one of Nelson Dawson's finest marine scenes. | |
