Note:	Jean Louis Andre David: The original aquatint printed in colours reached its most creative period in the 1920's and the 1930's. The two most famous aquatint artists were both Austrian: Luigi Kasimir and Hans Figura. Accomplished artists from around the world, however, practiced in this demanding form of printmaking and often combined their aquatint grounds with etching. The artists of the colour aquatint included Nicolas Hornyanski (Canada), Paul Wood and Frederick Halpern (Australia) and Jean Louis Andre David and Francois Baron (France). Their original colour prints are as avidly collected today as when they were first created.
	Jean Louis Andre David first exhibited his art in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Francais in 1923. A specialist in marine studies, David was both an accomplished painter and engraver. Most of David's aquatints portray scenes in and around major French ports. Anvers is typical of his fine work in the aquatint medium.

This original aquatint engraving represents a fine example of the marine art of Jean Louis Andre David.
