Note:	Honore Daumier: France's greatest satirical artist of all time should require very little introduction. Along with England's Hogarth and Spain's Goya, Daumier's wonderful imagery of human foibles and failings is unsurpassed. A master painter and sculptor, Daumier will always be best remembered for his incredible lithographs, particularly those published by Le Charivari from the early 1830's onwards. This was the Golden Age of French satirical art. Such praiseworthy masters as Gavarni, Bourdet and Grandville devoted themselves almost exclusively to this vital artform. Yet nobody, either in that era or since then, has managed to blend brilliant artistry, biting social commentary and pure humour at Honore Daumier's high level. Daumier's lithographs have claimed a huge influence for more than one hundred and fifty years. As one can see from this original lithograph, Daumier's manner of capturing expression and emotion has perhaps never been equaled.
	Emotions Parisiennes is the title for a series of fifty-one lithographs created by Honore Daumier and published by Le Charivari from June 2, 1839 to November 26, 1842. Generally, the subject for the prints in this series is the foibles and calamities of Paris life. This original lithograph is plate # 8 from this series. This impression contains the publishing and printer's details, "Chez Bauger et Cie. r. du Croissant No. 16", "Imp. d'Aubert & Cie" and the full title in French reads; "Cabriolet La M'Sieu...Je N'Ai Pas Seulement de Auoi Aller a Pied" which loosley translates to (Coach, Mr., Mr., .. - I barely have enough to go on foot). The scene depicts two men on the sidewalk in front of a cabriolet (coach), one (possibly the coachman) offers to take the other in his cabriolet, however the one with his hands in his pockets rejects the offer as he has no money to pay for the service. This particular lithograph is plate 8 from this series. It contains the publishing and printer's details, "Chez Bauger et Cie. r. du Croissant No. 16", "Imp. d'Aubert & Cie" in the lower margin. This is a fine, original example of the lithographic art by the famous French artist, Honore Daumier.
Raisonne:	Loys Delteil, Le Peintre-Graveur Illustre: Daumier, New York, Da Capo Press, 1969, Vol. XXII. Catalogue # 691, Second State of Three. Deteil explains that the second state was issued on October 15, 1839, by Le Charivari. A later edition (the third state) was published several years later with the appropriate accents added to 'M'sieu'. The first state contains only two or three known examples and was printed before the addition of the title.

Condition:	Printed on wove paper and with full margins as published by Le Charivari in 1839. The text is on the verso, as usual. Includes the publishing and printer's details, "Chez Bauger et Cie. r. du Croissant No. 16" , "Imp. d'Aubert & Cie" and the full title in French, "Cabriolet La M'Sieu...Je N'Ai Pas Seulement de Auoi Aller a Pied" (Coach Mr., Mr., .. - I barely have enough to go on foot). Containing unobtrusive fold lines, else in excellent condition throughout and without a sign of staining or foxing. Many impressions from Le Charivari have suffered by the deterioration of the paper. The paper in this impression, however, is of very high quality and has not deteriorated in any manner. Altogether, Cabriolet La M'Sieu...Je N'Ai Pas Seulement de Auoi Aller a Pied is a wonderful example of Daumier's art at the height of his creative powers.
