Pierre Daret's Biblical scene depicts a woman giving water to an old man at a well as two other women, one holding a baby look on. This original engraving is based upon a design by the Italian artist, Lorenzo Pasinelli. It is printed upon thin, hand-made, laid paper as published in 1665. Biblical Scene is a fine, original example of the seventeenth century religious art created by the French artist, Pierre Daret.

Note:	Pierre Daret: A talented seventeenth century painter and engraver, Pierre Daret first studied in Paris and then completed his training in Rome. Daret began and finished his career as a portrait painter. The bulk of his working life, however, was devoted to engraving and etching. His oeuvre in these mediums consists of over four hundred plates, mostly portraits. His success in this field was surely considerable as he was commissioned to engrave the likenesses as the King of England, the Royal Family of Poland and the Pope. Pierre Daret was received into the Royal French Academy as a full member in 1663.
	During the 1660's Pierre Daret lived and worked in Italy on several occasions engraving the art of Italian Renaissance painters and contemporary Italian artists. Lorenzo Pasinelli (1629-1700) was known throughout Italy as a painter of both historical and religious themes. Pierre Daret completed this fine engraving in 1665.

Condition:	Printed upon thin, hand-made, laid paper and with margins extending about one half inch past the plate-mark on all sides. Containing approximately four or five creases of between one and two inches in length within the paper. As the creases bear no ink they appear to have been there before the actual printing of the engraving. Also one small (restored) tear runs to the border of the image in the upper right corner. Else a finely printed impression and in good condition throughout. Biblical Scene represents a large, original example of the seventeenth century engraved art of Pierre Daret.
