Robert Cumming: A contemporary American
photographer, printmaker and conceptual artist, Robert Cumming studied
art techniques at the Massachusetts College of Art, Boston (1961-1965),
and at the University of Illinois, Urbana (1965-1967). He first won national
recognition for his photographs exhibited in the early 1970's. In
these works he often constructed the objects and their settings to produce
elements associated with illusion, time and motion. During the 1980's
he explored similar concerns in both lithography and etching and in his
installation pieces. Robert Cumming has also written and illustrated five books,
including, Discourse on Domestic Disorder (1975). "Castor Pollux" is a
fine example of his work in the drypoint medium. |

During his career Robert Cumming has exhibited his art at
such institutions as the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Massachusetts Institute
of Technology and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. Today the
work of Robert Cumming is found in the following collections; Dallas Museum
of Art, Denver Art Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum
