Note: | Issac Robert Cruikshank 'Robert Cruikshank': The elder brother of the famous satirical artist, George Cruikshank (1792-1878), Robert Cruikshank first studied art under his father, Isaac Cruikshank (1762-1811). During the Napoleonic wars he served in the merchant navy and then turned to his art after the final victory at Waterloo. For the following twenty years Robert’s work in etching and illustration paralleled that of his brother. In fact he often collaborated with George Cruikshank and together the brothers illustrated such books as Pierce’s, Life in London. |
In 1835, the London publisher, Thomas McLean, acquired a number of the most popular plates of both George and Robert Cruikshank and reprinted them with his address for a second and final edition which was titled, Cruikshankiana. This original etching hails from this edition. | |

Containing several slight, restored tears far away from the actual plate-mark as well as very minor foxing in the outer margins, else in good condition throughout.
