A. Wilbur Crane: An American painter of
landscapes and figure studies, Wilbur Crane was a student of both William
Merritt Chase and Robert Henri in New York. A full member of New York's
Salmagundi Club, Crane's studio was in Broadway and his home in New Rochelle.
Primarily an Impressionist, A. Wilbur Crane exhibited his paintings in
New York, Boston, Philadelphia and elsewhere from approximately 1900
to his demise in 1934. |
|
Some sources have erroneously listed two separate artists,
'Wilbur Crane' and 'A. Wilbur Crane', with the painter residing in New
Rochelle as 'Wilbur Crane'. Yet they are, in fact, one and the same.
This is verified by the New York Times obituary for Dec. 23, 1934, under
the rather bizarre title, "A. Wilbur Crane; Artist Stricken in New
Rochelle While Buying Yule Tree.". |
