Note:	Jack Coughlin: An accomplished American etcher, engraver and woodcut artist, Jack Coughlin studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and at the Art Students League of New York. He first began to exhibit his art in 1959 and since that time has had numerous one man shows and has participated in many international expositions. Respected equally for his realistic and surrealist imagery, Jack Coughlin is a full member of the Society of American Graphic Artists, the Springfield art League and is an associate member of the National Academy of Design, New York (1972).
	Since 1961, Jack Coughlin has held the chair of Professor of Art at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Major institutions that own examples of Jack Coughlin's original graphic art include the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Boston Public Library and Columbia University.
	Owl was commissioned by the Associated American Artists of New York in 1970 in a sole limited edition of 250 impressions. Since its creation in the mid 1930's the Associated American Artists commissioned original graphic art from such great masters as Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, Reginald Marsh and others. It published etchings and lithographs of no less stature during the 1960's and 1970's as contributing artists included Robert Bero, David Shapiro, Jack Levine, Chaim Koppelman, Joseph Margulies, James Kearns, Gregory Masurovsky, Jack Coughlin and Sidney Chafetz. Coughlin is known to have contributed at least three original graphic works of art to the A.A.A. during this time.
