Carl Benton Compton: A Texas painter and
printmaker, Carl Benton Compton studied art at Notre Dame University and

and worked in Georgetown, Texas. After that date he moved to Denton, Texas,
where he assumed the post of art instructor at the North Texas State Teachers
College. Compton also taught art techniques in Mexico. |
|
In 1935, Compton married the artist, Mildred Norris Compton.
The artists often exhibited their work together at major expositions in

Carl Benton Compton's reputation was built largely upon landscape scenes
and figure studies. Stars, however, is intriguingly surreal in
its structure. The entire composition is constructed with squares, circles
and angled lines with two very 'cubist' figures dominating the foreground.
Although 'stars' are evident in the image the title could very well be Stares.
This original lithograph was published in a very small signed and numbered
edition of fifteen impressions. |
