Charles Cobelle: A modern French master of painting,
lithography and a fine muralist, Charles Cobelle received his Bachelor's
and Master's Degrees from the University of Munich and continued his studies
at the Ecole des Beaux Artes in Paris. Much more influential in his development,
however, were his private studies with Marc Chagall and his apprenticeship
in the studio of Raul Dufy in Menton on the Riviera. When Cobelle emigrated
to the United States in the late 1920's he had already established himself
within the great tradition of the School of Paris. |
|
During the following decades Cobelle's lithographs and paintings
of street scenes, racetracks, regattas and casinos earned him in international
reputation and many awards and honors. His views of both Paris and New
York, in particular, were eagerly sought after by major French and American
publishers. Paris Scene is typical of Cobelle's festive and joyful
imagery. |
|
Currently, Charles Cobelle's art is included in the permanent
collections of Howard Hughes, Stuart M. Seymour, Mrs. Helen Hart and many
others. |
