Susan Cirigliano's original etching, Dirty Ben is an artist proof impression printed upon fine archival paper and with full, deckled margins as created by the artist c. 1975 - 1980. This impression is signed, titled and annotated, 'A/P' (Artist Proof) by the artist in pencil along the lower margin. This amusing etching depicts Ben, a grubby looking cook, unshaved, and possibly unwashed. He is wearing a chef's hat and a very dirty apron over a short sleeved striped t-shirt while he happily goes about his business preparing an elaborate meal in some kitchen. Dirty Ben is a striking, original example of the humour and etched art created by the American artist, Susan Cirigliano.

Note: Susan Cirigliano: A Manhattan artist, Susan Cirigliano studied under such instructors as Michael Ponce de Leon and Roberto de Lamonica at New York's Art Students League and received her B.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts and her M.S. degree from Bank Street College of Education. Beginning around 1975 she regularly exhibited her art and calligraphy with such associations and institutions as the Pen & Brush Club, Art Directors Club, Artists Equity Association, American Ballet Theatre, American Language and Cultural Institute and the Knickerbocker Club.
  In 1977 and 1979, Susan Cirigliano was in charge of the Art Students League's Summer Printmaking Workshop. The delightful Dirty Ben may date from this period. She is now Head of the Art Department of St. Halida's and St. Hugh's School, Manhattan. During the course of her career Susan Cirigliano has received such awards as the Concourse Prize in Graphics, the Philip Eisenberg Award and the Excellence in Art Award.
