Seymour Chwast: A major designer, illustrator and
graphic artist, Seymour Chwast studied at the Cooper Union, New York,
under Leon Friend. The artist first rose to national prominence in 1967
with the publication of his lithographic poster, End Bad Breath.
This wonderful anti-war commentary portrayed 'Uncle Sam' in glorious red,
white and blue. Within his gaping mouth are a lower row of teeth transformed
into defenseless houses. Above four B-22's rain a maze of explosive bombs. |
|
Since that time, Seymour Chwast has created a number of fine lithographs
and silkscreens, designed both record covers and book jackets, as well
as illustrating books and magazines and even creating animated features.
He was founding member of New York's Push Pin Studios and began teaching
at the Cooper Union as an Instructor of Design and Illustration in 1975.
The art of Seymour Chwast is included in the permanent collections of
such major museums as the Suntory Museum, Osaka, Japan, the Metropolitan
Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. |
