Note:	James Cadzow: A Scottish landscape painter and etcher, James Cadzow received his education from the Edinburgh College of Art. For a number of years he served as Professor of Art at Dundee High School. Cadzow was a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Scottish Academy, Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts and at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.
	All of James Cadzow's etchings and engravings depict scenes of Scotland's countryside, particularly its lochs, bays, mountains and trees. All of his works were highly received for their fine attention to both detail and atmosphere and for their textural qualities. The Broken Gate bears no edition numeration but it is known that the vast majority of Cadzow's etchings were published in editions of fifty.
