La Route du Village (Bernard Buffet: Lithographs, 1952-1966)

Bernard Buffet's, original lithograph, "La Route du Village" (The Village Road), is printed upon white Arches paper and with full margins as published in 1968 by Fernand Mourlot for the catalogue raisonne entitled, Bernard Buffet: Lithographs, 1952-1966 in an edition of two thousand impressions. This impression is signed in the stone by the French artist. Like most of his original art, La Route du Village is most powerful in its use of both line and colour. Here, Buffet depicts a village road as the major focus in the scene, to the left he displays the never ending view of haunting hydro and telephone poles and wires, with houses in the background and to the right, he depicts a close-up view of a house with a fence along the lonely road. "La Route du Village" is a fine, original example of his lithographic art created by the 20th century French artist, Bernard Buffet.

Note:	Bernard Buffet: A modern French master of painting, lithography and etching, Bernard Buffet entered the Paris Ecole des Beaux-Arts at the young age of sixteen. He preferred, however, to spend most of his student hours studying the works of Rembrandt, David and Courbet at the Louvre. Buffet exhibited his first painting at the Paris Salon at age eighteen. His first original print - a drypoint engraving - was created in 1948. Buffet's first original lithograph dates from 1952 and since that time he dedicated himself almost exclusively to this demanding artistic medium. Bernard Buffet's lithographs have for many years been famous throughout the world. His bold and very personal form of expression has placed him among the most sought after and respected contemporary masters of figurative and landscape art.
	An original lithograph, La Route du Village (The Village Road), was commissioned for the catalogue raisonne entitled, Bernard Buffet: Lithographs, 1952-1966, written by Fernand Mourlot and Georges Simenon and published in 1968. Mourlot, the master printer, also printed this original lithograph. Altogether, Buffet contributed eleven lithographs to this most valuable portfolio. Like most of his original art, La Route du Village is most powerful in its use of both line and colour. Here, Buffet depicts a village road as the major focus in the scene, to the left he displays the never ending view of haunting hydro and telephone poles and wires, with houses in the background and to the right, he depicts a close-up view of a house with a fence along the lonely road.
