Note: |
Georges Braque: One of Europe's leading figures
of avant-garde art, Georges Braque's influence upon Fauvism, Post-Impressionism
and (most particularly) Cubism is paramount. Braque came to Paris in 1900,
briefly studying at the Academie Humbert and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts.
He joined the revolutionary Fauvist movement in 1906 but a much more crucial
development occurred in 1908 when together with Picasso he created Cubism.
As both a painter and original printmaker, Georges Braque is regarded as the most
analytical of all Cubist artists. |
|
Georges Braque first began experimenting with etching and
lithography in 1921. These mediums came to take a major position during
the following years of his career, both in individually published prints
and in original graphics for commissioned, illustrated books. Created
around 1960, Still Life with Fruit is typical of Georges Braque's mastery
in the lithographic medium. |
