Note:	Michel Bouquet: A French landscape painter and lithographic artist, Michel Bouquet studied in Paris under Gudin. He began to exhibit his art at the prestigious Paris Salon in 1835 and continued to show there until the mid 1870's. During his career, Michel Bouquet received many honours, including a third-class medal in 1839 and a second class medal in 1847 and 1848. As this original lithograph indicates, Bouquet was well known on both sides of the English Channel. In fact he spent several years in both England and Scotland.
	Some of Michel Bouquet's best lithographs were published by the great English early nineteenth century publishing house, Ackermann & Company. Before the invention of colour lithography (around 1855), many lithographic publishers and printers were experimenting with the 'tinted' lithograph -- that is, a printing were separate stones would be used to create tonal values. Such is the case with, Moon - Rise portrays what was one of the wildest regions of Scotland. Situated in the Central Highlands, The Valley of Cairn-Gorm also includes Loch Ruicht. The mountains in the background include some of Scotland's largest and form the chain known as the Grampions.
	Rudolph Ackermann (Germany, 1764 - London, 1834): London's most famous early nineteenth century publisher of original prints and illustrated books, Rudolph Ackermann founded his publishing empire in 1796. By 1815 he was internationally praised for his detailed miniature engravings which appeared in his Forget Me Not annuals, his superb architectural studies and his landscapes and topographical views. His larger prints were most often issued in sets or portfolios and for these he commissioned some of the finest artists of the day, such as Samuel Prout and Thomas Rowlandson. Ackermann's larger views were usually created in the mediums of lithography, aquatint or soft ground etching. Some of his best known sets of subjects and views are The Microcosm of London (1808), History of the Abbey Church of St. Peter's, Westminster (1812), The History of the University of Oxford (1814), The English Dance of Death (1815) and The History of the Royal Residences (1829).
	Day & Son, London: Some of the most ambitious and accomplished printmaking projects of the Victorian era were launched by the lithographic publishers, Day & Son. The firm began in the mid 1820's under the title of 'Day & Hague' and assumed its more familiar name 'Day & Son, London' in 1845. Throughout their early years they printed and published lithographs dealing with a wide range of subjects, such as, hunting scenes, genre depictions and topographical views.

Condition:	Printed on mid nineteenth century wove paper and with full margins as published by Ackermann in London in 1849. Signed by Bouquet with his 'MB' monogramme in the stone (lower right corner). It is a superb, tonal printing and in excellent condition throughout.
