Maw Maw and The Family

George Booth's original lithograph, "Maw Maw' and The Family" was created by the American comic artist in 1982. This impression of "Maw Maw' and The Family" is printed upon thick, laid paper with the 'RIVES' watermark and with full, deckled margins as published in New York in the small limited edition of only eighty impressions. It is signed, dated, titled, and numbered by George Booth in pencil along the lower margin. "Maw Maw' and the Family" is a wonderful example of George Booth's famous humour.

Note: George Booth: One of America's great comic artists, George Booth was born and raised in rural Missouri. After serving with the U. S. Marines, Booth attended the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, the Corcoran School of Art, Washington, DC, and the School of Visual Arts, New York City. His first work was as the art director for The Leatherneck magazine. George Booth became a contributing artist for The New Yorker in the early 1960's and remained at that position for the following two decades. His work for The New Yorker gained for him a national reputation and many awards. George Booth has also illustrated a number of fine children's books as well as contributing cartoons to the New York Times.
  This original lithograph entitled, Maw Maw' and the Family is a wonderful example of George Booth's famous humour. It probably relates to his childhood days in rural Missouri where the name of a nearby village was 'Lonesome'. Despite the appeal of acquiring 'farsh eggs', a visit to Maw Maw and her family would be far from any sense of the pastoral ideal.

Condition: Printed upon thick, laid paper with the 'RIVES' watermark and with full, deckled margins as published in New York in 1982. Signed, dated '1982', titled, "Maw Maw' and the Family" and numbered '37/80' by the artist in pencil along the lower margin. An excellent impression and in excellent condition throughout. This original lithograph represents a superb example of the comic genius of George Booth.
