Oast Houses

J. Harvey Bloom's original linocut, "Oast Houses" is printed on thin mulberry paper and with irregular but full margins as published around 1935. This impression is signed and titled in pencil along the lower margin. The scene depicts a view of an oast house, which is a building containing a kiln (oast) used for drying hops. This is a fine, original example of the landscape art created by the British artist, J. Harvey Bloom.

Note: J. Harvey Bloom 'Harvey Bloom': An English landscape painter, wood engraver and linocut artist J. Harvey Bloom was a full member of the Royal Society of British Artists. During the early 1930's he lived in London, but by 1935, he had moved to Carshalton, Surrey. During his career, J. Harvey Bloom's art was exhibited at both the Royal Academy, London, and at the Royal Scottish Academy. He also exhibited forty-eight prints and paintings with the Royal Society of British Artists.
  Most of J. Harvey Bloom's original linocuts and wood engravings were printed by himself and published in small editions of twenty-five impressions or less. With its strong atmospheric effects and tonal values, Oast Houses is a splendid example of his linocut art.
Note: An Oast House is a building containing a kiln (oast) used for drying hops. Also, these words are written in pencil along the lower margin, "Exhibited: Royal Society of British Artists". They appear to be in the artist's own hand.

Condition: Printed on thin mulberry (rice) paper and with irregular but full margins as published by the artist around 1935. Signed and titled in pencil along the lower margin. A finely printed impression and in very good condition throughout. Oast Houses represents a prime example of the art of J. Harvey Bloom.
