Note: | Mose Bianchi: A leading nineteenth century Italian painter and etcher, Mose Bianchi enrolled at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, Milan, in 1856 and studied under Giuseppe Bertini. His fellow student there was Tranquillo Cremona. Mose Bianchi's first exhibited painting dates from 1862. In 1866 he was awarded the Pensionato Oggioni, allowing him to visit Venice, Rome and Paris. In Paris, Bianchi's art came to the attention of Goupil, the influential art dealer and publisher, who commissioned the artist to paint a number of genre scenes and city views. In 1898 Mose Bianchi was appointed director of the Accademia Cignaroli in Verona. |
Most of Mose Bianchi's original etchings date from the 1890's . He exhibited a number of works in this medium at the Universal Exposition, Paris, in 1900. Most of his original etchings, however, were not printed in significant numbers during his lifetime. In 1962 the Milan art dealer and scholar, Antonio Fusetti, acquired several of Mose Bianchi's original plates which he printed in numbered editions of one hundred and sixty impressions. This impression of Christ and the Woman Taken in Adultery hails from this edition. | |
