Rene Bertholo: A twentieth century Portuguese sculptor, painter and printmaker, Rene Bertholo studied at the School of Decorative Arts in Lisbon and the Superior School of Fine Arts. After moving to Paris in 1958, He spent much of his career in France. He was particularly active during the 1960's pop art era and exhibited widely. Bertholo participated in group exhibitions at the Salon Comparaison, Paris, 1964, and at the Musee d'Art Moderne, Paris, 1964. His first individual show took place at the Galerie du Dragon, Paris, in 1963. |

The KWY Magazine was founded in 1958 by the artists, Rene Bertholo, Christo, Lourdes Castro, Jan Voss, Costa _Pinheiro, Jose Esacada and others, later known as the KWY Group. The periodicals were published and edited in Paris between 1958 and 1963. The magazine included original prints created by its founders as well as other famous artists such as, Maria Helena Vieira da Silva, Goncalo Duarte, Costa Pinheiro, Guy Weelen, Nuno de Braganca, and others. |

This original lithograph was published in a portfolio entitled,
"Suites No. 8", by Galerie Krugier & Cie., Geneva, Switzerland, in November
of 1964. The gallery represented a number of young and rising international
artists and for this portfolio Horst Antes, Rene Bertholo, David Hockney,
Henri Luginbuhl, Bernard Rancillac and Herve Telemaque contributed original
lithographs. |
Edition: |
The edition for this untitled composition was limited to one thousand five hundred impressions
and printed by Dumaret & Golay, in Geneva. Each lithograph was printed
upon a large sheet of wove paper and folded down the centre to accommodate
the size of the portfolio. |

Condition: |
Printed on sturdy wove paper and with full margins for the
sole edition of fifteen hundred impressions as published in Geneva in
1964. Centre crease, as usual. Containing several very faint imperfections
in the paper else in excellent condition throughout. This original lithograph
represents a prime example of the art of Rene Bertholo. |
