Note:	John Alfred Everest Bennett 'John Bennett': A twentieth century landscape painter, John Bennett arrived in Canada at an early age. Largely self-taught, he graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in English Literature in 1942. Bennett then went to Europe for the remaining three years of World War Two and served as an infantry camouflage officer. During these years John Bennett created a number of war scenes in oil and watercolour which were then exhibited in a solo exhibition in 1946 at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto.
	Known for both his landscapes and figure studies, John Bennett was elected as a full member of the Ontario Society of Artists (1951), the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour and the Canadian Society of Education through Art. As well, Bennett was a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Canadian Academy. Today the paintings and watercolours of John Bennett will be found in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Art, Ottawa, the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, and the University of Guelph Art Collection. This latter named institution held a one man exhibition of John Bennett's art in 1956. An original painting on canvas, "Autumn View" was created John Alfred Everest Bennett around 1955. Containing a small scratch in the lower left else, in very good condition throughout and in its original frame.
