"Orpheus" dates from 1961 and exists in four states.
In the first three states the artist worked upon various aspects of both
the etching and the aquatinted background. Martin Barooshian pulled six s
from each of these three incomplete states. For the fourth and final state
the artist added the harp in the blue circle and embossed the entire portrait
with a series rectangular and circular shapes, lending a strong sculptural
quality to the image. This original, final and completed state was then published
in a limited edition of fifty signed s. "Orpheus" is a fine, original
example of the etched art created by the American artist, Martin Barooshian. |
