Albert Banska: An early
twentieth century German painter and woodcut artist, Albert Banska first
received his arts education in the medium of ceramics. Moving to the city
of Wurzburg, Bavaria, Banska's first one-man exhibition of his paintings
and woodcuts took place there in 1920. During the following years Albert
Banska created both color and black and white woodcuts of landscapes, city
scenes, portraits, figurative scenes and animal studies. Today the artist's
work will be found in public collections in both Germany and Austria. |
|
"Landschaft" (Landscape) is not numbered in a specific edition.
It should be noted, however, that the majority of Albert Banska's color woodcuts
were published in editions of one hundred s. As well, it should
be mentioned that Albert Banska used a very thick, almost cloth-like, mulberry
paper for printing his woodcuts. As a result his pencil signature often
appears quite faint. Such is the case with Landschaft which is signed "A.
Banska" by the artist in the lower right margin. |
