Note: | Adolf Jelinek Alex: A Czech painter and etcher, Adolf Jelinek Alex studied art techniques at the prazska (Prague) Akademie, under Professor Svabinskeho, and at the Munich Academy, under Professor Janka. A full member of the Gruppe Bildender Kunstler (Brunn), A. J. Alex exhibited his paintings and original prints in both Czechoslovakia and Germany during the 1920's and 1930's. |
As an etcher, Adolf Alex was best known for his equestrian scenes, architectural views and figurative depictions of gypsies. Today his fine art is included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Prague, the British Museum, London, and the Albertina, Venice. | |
The dragoons were the mounted infantry (soldieres on horseback), now refered to as cavalry units. A good example of these troops were the 'Light Dragoon Regiments of the British Army', the 'King's American Dragoons', the French 'Dragons de la Garde Imperiale', the '8th Bohemian Dragoons', the 'King's German Legion Dragoons', and many others others. | |
