| Note: | Jules Adeline: A nineteenth century French etcher, architect and writer, Jules Adeline was an eminent researcher upon the art and architecture of Rouen. He first exhibited his fine architectural etchings at the Paris Salon in 1873 and during the following thirty years created more than five hundred etchings dealing chiefly with views of Rouen. |
| Many of Adeline's etchings were published in illustrated books written by his own hand. These included, Les Quais de Rouen (1880) and Maisons Normandes (1889). This particular etching originates from a portfolio with text by Adeline entitled, Les Sculptures grotesques et symboliques (Rouen et Environs), which was published in 1878. It is typical of his fine architectural work in both etching and drypoint engraving. | |

Bearing the full title and publisher's address along the lower margin and signed in the plate by the artist to the lower left. A fine, strongly printed and in excellent condition throughout.
