Note:	Georges C. Belin-Dollet lived and worked primarily in Paris. There, he was a regular exhibitor with the Artistes Francais. His etchings after Millet were regularly shown in France, England and, particularly, the United States. Some of Georges Belin-Dollet's etchings, in fact, were published by the major New York City printseller and publisher, Knoedler. This may be the case with this large and impressive etching entitled, "The Winnower", which is based upon Millet's primary figure in the 1848 painting of the same name.
	Jean Francois Millet (1814-1875) was undoubtedly one of France's finest nineteenth century masters. His art was a primary influence upon such artists as Camille Pissarro, Georges Seurat and Vincent van Gogh. Several artists, in fact, dedicated most of their artistic oeuvre to a re-examination of Millet's artistic techniques. The master's grandson, Jean Charles Millet, etched scenes and studies based upon Millet's designs in the early twentieth century. In the latter nineteenth century Georges Belin-Dollet dedicated much of his art to creating etchings after Millet's drawings and paintings.

Condition:	Printed upon hand-made mulberry (rice) paper and with full margins as published around 1890. Signed in pencil by Belin-Dollet along the lower right margin. Containing a diagonal crease in the upper portion of the image else a fine, early impression and in very good condition throughout. "The Winnower" represents a superb example of the art of both Jean Francois Millet and Georges Belin-Dollet.
